Caps flew at the fieldhouse Friday night as the Class of 2026 walked the stage in front of a packed house. This year's class earned over $2 million in combined scholarships, with graduates headed to trade programs, the military, and colleges across the state. The senior choir closed the ceremony with the alma mater, and more than a few umbrellas doubled as confetti shields in the parking lot afterward. Congratulations, graduates โ€” Marion is proud of you.

    Courthouse Square

The farmers market opened for the season Saturday with its biggest vendor lineup yet โ€” 22 booths of produce, eggs, honey, baked goods, and cut flowers on the courthouse square. Early-season tables are heavy on greens, radishes, strawberries, and bedding plants. The first sweet corn usually lands in mid-July, and the popular kettle corn cart returns next weekend. The market runs every Saturday 8am to noon through October, rain or shine. Parking is free on the square and the surrounding blocks.

  • Free fishing weekend at Matter Park

    Matter Park

Free fishing weekend drew families to the Matter Park ponds Saturday and Sunday โ€” no license required, and loaner rods went fast both mornings. The parks department stocked the ponds with bluegill and catfish ahead of the weekend. Volunteers from the bass club ran a casting clinic for first-timers both afternoons. Missed it? Indiana runs additional free fishing days every year โ€” and the ponds are open to licensed anglers year-round.

  • Riverwalk extension breaks ground

    By Jess H.

The crews from the parks department broke ground Tuesday morning on the long-awaited Riverwalk extension, a half-mile stretch that will connect the existing path to the north side trailhead. City officials say the project should wrap up by late September, weather permitting. The new section adds three benches, solar path lighting, and a small overlook deck above the bend in the river. Foot traffic on the existing Riverwalk has roughly doubled since 2024, and the extension has been the most requested item in the parks survey two years running. Construction will close the north parking lot on weekdays through July โ€” weekend access stays open.
